Questions & Answers
SOME COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I change the locks on my rented property?
If you rent a property and need the locks changed you must contact the landlord or owner to get permission. If your current locks are faulty, it is a requirement that the landlord arrange a replacement asap. In cases of emergency, such as being locked out and your landlord is unavailable you can change the locks but the cost is down to you. In all scenarios a copy of the new set of keys must be given to the landlord or owner asap.
What is the average waiting time for a booked Locksmith to arrive?
In a emergency the average arrival time for a Locksmith is roughly 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic, current location of call and the time of day you call. Sometimes a Locksmith can already be on another job when you call.
How can I tell the Locksmith is legitimate?
All legitimate Locksmiths will have I.D, a company uniform and accreditations linked to their experience and training such as being a member of the M.LA (Master Locksmith Association) or the U.K.L.A (United Kingdom Locksmith Association). Don't be afraid to ask for I.D.
How can I avoid being scammed by a rogue Locksmith?
Rogue Locksmiths will use marketing tactics to get you to call them such as advertising very low rates of service.
Any Locksmith advert or website that guarantee prices like "£49" is a red flag and in most cases the rogue will state your lock needs to be drilled within 10 minutes of arrival in order to increase the price. So a price quote of £49 can, and does, end up being increased to £300! Don't be fooled!
How can I check my locks are insurance rated?
All external door locks at your property should be BS3621 rated. This is a standard of excellence in the Security industry. The way to check is to open your door and on the lock will have a heart shaped crest BS3621, the brand make and the number of levers. The classification means the lock has adequate measures to deter drilling, picking and sawing on different elements of the lock. Internal doors such as Bedrooms normally have 3 lever locks.
What payment methods do you accept?
Chip and Pin, contactless and/or bank transfer is usually the best forms of payment for any Locksmith service provided. Cash is accepted too but rare.
No matter which form of payment you decide, you should always be given a printed or digital receipt immediately detailing the job done. handwritten receipt are a thing of the past.
What I.D do customers need to show?
If you are locked out of your property we do need to see some photo I.D (Drivers licence normally) and a form of proof showing you are a occupant of the address. We understand in some cases you may have photo ID but not address proof there and then. As most utility bills, bank accounts, rental agreements, land registration are now online, we can initially accept these upon arrival but would need to see a papered version once we have opened your front door.
