A lot of lock related issues may not necessary be to do with the actual lock itself. In many cases a lock can and does become faulty due being ill fitted to the door or a problem with the door and frame. A common occurrence is when a wooden door swells due the summer heat or excessive use of hallway radiators being left on. The door being made of wood and being a natural material swells over time meaning the door will expand by a few millimetres. This causes the Lock and meta plates on the frame to become misaligned, resulting in the lock becoming difficult to open and/or lock. Another issue is when a wooden door absorbs water due to exposure to heavy rain fall. The wood retains the water and in doing so increases in weight. That weight puts pressure in the door frame and hinges, again resulting in alignment of your locks.
